Bro Code

What does Bro Code mean?

Rules of friendship among guys

Bro Code is like an invisible set of rules that guys follow when they interact with each other. It’s not a written rulebook, but almost every guy knows about it and follows it. It’s all about respect and loyalty among friends, especially those who consider each other ‘bros’.

Though the term has been around for a long time, it wasn’t until the mid-2000s that it became popular. This happened because of a character named Barney Stinson from a TV show called How I Met Your Mother. Since then, everyone started using the term ‘bro code’ more frequently.

Before that, in the 1990s, there was a similar term called ‘male code’ used by a famous comedian named Jerry Seinfeld. Just like ‘bro code’, ‘male code’ also talked about the unspoken rules among men.

Example for using ‘Bro Code’ in a conversation

Hey, can I borrow your car tomorrow? Mine broke down.

Sure, bro! Bro Code, right? I got your back. Just bring it back with a full tank, okay?

Thanks, man! I owe you one. Definitely filling it up before returning.

No worries, bro. That’s what bros are for. Bro Code is all about helping each other out.
