What does Cold mean?

When someone is described as being ‘Cold’, it means they are acting in a way that is seen as mean or heartless. This term is derived from the phrase “cold-hearted”, which is often used to describe individuals who lack empathy or compassion.

It’s not just a term for regular meanness. ‘Cold’ is usually used when someone does something intentionally harmful. For instance, if a girl flirts with a guy, giving him hope, just to embarrass him with a public rejection when he finally musters up the courage to ask her out, she would be considered ‘cold’.

However, ‘Cold’ isn’t always negative. Teenagers have adapted this term as a synonym for “cool.” For example, a basketball player making the final shot of the game, winning it for his team, could be described as ‘cold’ because the act is so ruthless, it’s impressive.

The use of ‘Cold’ is widespread and is not restricted to any particular age group. Both teenagers and adults find it useful in various situations to express their emotions or opinions.

Example for using ‘Cold’ in a conversation

Hey, did you hear what happened to Mark?

Yeah, I heard. It was so cold of Sarah to lead him on like that.

I know, right? She knew he liked her and then just humiliated him in front of everyone.

That’s really cold-hearted. I can’t believe she would do something like that.
