What does Curve mean?

Turn Down

Curve is a slang term used when someone gently rejects another person’s romantic advances. Instead of directly denying their interest, the person subtly avoids or deflects the situation, often to avoid confrontation or out of kindness.

This term gained traction around 2016, and draws its meaning from the way one would physically move around an obstacle to avoid colliding with it. In essence, when you curve someone, you’re sidestepping their romantic intentions.

Curving could be done out of politeness or simply to dodge a potentially awkward situation. It’s a softer approach compared to “ghosting”, which involves completely disappearing from someone’s life without explanation. A classic example of curving would be a person ignoring flirtatious messages and steering the conversation towards a different topic.
