Name Dropping

What does Name Dropping mean?

Boasting about knowing a certain person

Ever heard someone brag about meeting a famous person or a big shot just to look cool? This is what we call name dropping. It’s when someone boasts about their connections with high-profile folks, often celebrities or VIPs, to seem more important than they might actually be.

People who lack confidence or are eager to impress others are generally the ones who resort to name dropping. They use it as a tool to boost their own perceived status. It’s important to note that being labeled a name dropper isn’t exactly flattering. It’s often seen as a negative trait.

Another similar term you might have come across is brand dropping. This is when people keep talking about the high-end brands they own. Just like name droppers, brand droppers are usually trying to show off their wealth or status.

Both name dropping and brand dropping can be pretty irritating. So, if you don’t want to come off as boastful or pretentious, it’s best to avoid these practices. Just be genuine and people will appreciate you for who you really are.
