What does WAHD stand for?

Work-at-home dad

A WAHD is basically a dad who works from his own house. This could be for a company that permits working from home or he could be running his own business.

Besides working, a WAHD often takes on parenting roles. This could be because the cost of child care is too high, so the family decides that the dad will look after the children while also doing his job.

On the other hand, the dad might find himself in a situation where he has to look after the kids unexpectedly, maybe due to a school closing or a child falling sick. In such situations, the dad would be juggling his work responsibilities with taking care of the children.

Apart from WAHDs, there are also SAHDs, WAHMs, and SAHMs, all of which are variations on the theme of working or staying at home while also being a parent.

Example for using ‘WAHD’ in a conversation

Hey! Did you hear about Mark?

No, what’s up?

He’s become a WAHD!

Oh, really? What does that mean?

It means he’s now a Work-at-home dad. He quit his office job and now works from home while taking care of his kids.
