Triple Bogey

What does Triple Bogey mean in Golf?

Three strokes more than par

If you hear the term ‘Triple Bogey’, it’s all about golf scores. This is when someone scores three strokes over what is considered the standard, or par, for a specific hole.

Par is a term used in golf to describe the expected number of strokes a skilled golfer would use to complete a hole. So, if the par is 4, and it took you 7 strokes to get your ball into the hole, that’s a Triple Bogey.

A Triple Bogey is the worst score with a specific name in golf. Any score over this would simply be referred to as “four over”, “five over”, and so on.

While we’re on the subject of golf scores, there are a few others you might find interesting. For instance, an Eagle is when someone scores two strokes under par, and a Birdie is one under par.

On the flip side, a Bogey is when a golfer scores one over par, and a Double Bogey is two strokes over par. These scores are more common than Birdie and Eagle scores since not all golfers have the skills to score under par.
