Aleppo Moment

What does Aleppo Moment mean?

Forgetting something momentarily

An Aleppo Moment is a slip in your memory when you momentarily forget something important. This term was birthed from an incident involving Gary Johnson, a former presidential candidate, and his inability to answer a question about the crisis in Aleppo, Syria.

On September 8, 2016, Johnson was on the popular MSNBC show, Morning Joe. During the show, a host named Mike Barnicle posed a question about how Johnson would handle the situation in Aleppo. Instead of answering the question, Johnson replied, “What is Aleppo?

After this incident, whenever someone has a momentary lapse in memory, it is often referred to as having an “Aleppo Moment”. This term is now considered a synonym for a “brain fart“.
