Latte Papa

What does Latte Papa mean?

A good-looking dad from Sweden, known as ‘Latte Papa’

A latte papa is a term that has been popularized in Sweden to describe a kind of modern, stylish, and caring father. This dad can commonly be spotted in coffee shops and parks, usually dressed in trendy designer clothes, and often seen taking care of his children.

Latte papas emerged in the limelight around the 2010s in Sweden. This was a result of the country implementing a comprehensive family leave policy, offering a total of 480 days to both parents, to be used as they see fit. This shift in policy has allowed more fathers to stay at home to care for their children, and in turn, more women have been able to focus on their careers.

However, not all stay-at-home dads (SAHDs) are considered latte papas. The title of a latte papa is reserved for those who are not only good-looking, but also display a touch of metrosexual style, demonstrate a high level of parental care, and exude a hint of hipster flair. It’s also worth noting that the title of latte papa cannot be self-proclaimed; it is usually given by an outside observer, often a woman appreciating the dad’s attractive qualities.

The term can also be found as “Latte Pappa” or “Latte Dad.” This is just one example of the many slang words used to describe parents, other examples include Soccer mom, Walmart Mom, and NASCAR Dad.
