What does PS5 mean?

PlayStation 5

The PS5 is a popular gaming console created by Sony. It’s the successor to the PS4, and the newest member of the PlayStation family which includes PS, PS2, PS3, and PS4.

Released in 2020, the PS5 was launched alongside Microsoft’s next-gen consoles, the Xbox Series X and Series S. It was brought out in two versions: one with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a Digital Edition for those who prefer downloading their games.

Some of the highly-anticipated games released for PS5 include Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, CyberPunk 2077, Astro’s Playroom, Hitman 3, God of War, and Demon’s Souls.

Interestingly, when the PS5 was launched in November 2020, it was in such high demand that it led to a shortage. Some people even tried to buy up as many consoles as they could to sell them for a hefty profit.

Some opportunistic sellers even used automated bots to snatch up the consoles as soon as they were listed online, and then sold them to eager buyers for inflated prices. This act of buying and selling for profit is often referred to as scalping.
