Chonk

What does Chonk mean?

A pet that’s got some extra weight

If someone labels your pet or child a chonk, it’s a playful way to say they’re a bit on the hefty side. The word popped up in 2018 when a Facebook user, let’s call her Emily Smith, shared a cat body fat index chart she had funnily modified and posted it on a group named THIS CAT IS C H O N K Y.

Emily’s creation, known as the CHONK Chart, measured cats’ chonkiness from “A Fine Boi” to “OH LAWD HE COMIN.” It became a big hit on social media when it was shared on Twitter and quickly spread across the internet.

As the chart gained popularity, it was shared and used in different ways by many people. This helped the term chonk to become part of many people’s vocabulary, especially those who are active on social media.
